TYPES OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING & DEFINITIONS

SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

A learning event in which a group of students are engaging in learning at the same time. Before learning technology allowed for synchronous learning environments, most online education took place through asynchronous learning methods.

ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

A student-centered teaching method that uses online learning resources to facilitate information sharing outside the constraints of time and place among a network of people.

BLENDED LEARNING

A formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through delivery of content and instruction via digital and online media with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace.

Also known as face-to-face classes, students have their classmates, learning centers on campus, professors’ office hours, tutors, and teaching assistants to support and help them with their various learning needs. These resources guide them, clarify and reinforce the material, and allow them to succeed in their education.

WEBINARS

Presentations, lectures, workshops, or seminars that are transmitted over the web using video conferencing software. A key feature is interactive elements, i.e. the ability to give, receive and discuss information in real-time.

CPDU

The measurement used to award credit for participation in a broad range of activities including action research, staff development programs, curriculum design, mentoring, supervision of a student teacher, workshops and seminars.
